This local practice has involved 34 years of architectural and environmental design for civic, heritage, residential and landscape related projects in the wild and natural places of northern NSW: from the ocean edge up into the mountains and tablelands of New England.

All work has respected the traditional historical forms of the area, integrating these with recent awareness of energy efficiency, natural ventilation and ecologically sustainable design. In all cases the approach has been to pay respect for and minimize interference with the historical forms and natural processes of the area, utilizing natural and durable materials in robust and practical structures.

Recent work has also involved incorporation of renewable energy services such as photo-voltaic panels, along with solar hot water heating, rainwater collection, and building fabric with low embodied energy.

A sustainable architectural project is one that minimises new construction, makes relevant use of the productive capacities of the site and is designed, engineered and built with minimal resource consumption and waste. Above all, a sustainable project is one that is necessary, appropriate to its needs and adaptable to those of future generations.
